When you engage an Enrolled Agent instead, you get the work done by someone who is qualified to practice before the IRS, so you don't have to defend your reports by yourself.  But the fees charged by an EA tend to be lower than those of a CPA.  Of course, law requires that we report the information the same way - honestly.
